This digital collection is comprised of select materials from the Opera Idaho Records collection documenting the history of Opera Idaho, including the evolution of the organization through name changes, as well as its production and event history. Materials are largely textual, encompassing organizational documents, marketing materials, and production programs. The collection also includes photographs of select performances, audio and video recordings of performances, and interviews with notable people responsible for the management and growth of the organization.
Opera Idaho is a nonprofit organization devoted to funding and producing operas in Boise and throughout the State of Idaho. The organization was established in 1973 under the name Boise Civic Opera; the name was changed in 1983 to Boise Opera, and again in 1997 to Opera Idaho.
Historically, the nonprofit has aimed to foster interest in and joy of opera throughout Idaho. Part of Opera Idaho's mission is "...to foster wider acceptance, appreciation and enjoyment of opera and related art forms in young people and adults of all social and economic backgrounds, through diverse educational and community engagement programs."
