This collection comprises select materials from the Foothills Levy Collection documenting the community and municipal efforts to preserve land in the Boise Foothills through a special tax collected over two years.
Beginning in the 1990s, a conservation effort to preserve and protect the natural open space in the Boise Foothills from development by raising money for land purchases through a two-year property tax known as the Foothills Serial Levy was started. Boise voters approved the $10 million levy by 59% on May 22, 2001. The money was collected on residential, industrial, and commercial properties in 2002 and 2003, and was then administered by the Foothills Conservation Advisory Committee, who managed the funds until September 2012, when their responsibilities were transferred over to the City of Boise Parks and Recreation Commission.
